Leviathan has a bunch of lore stuff and is fun, but the story is understandable without it.Ĭitadel is goddamn amazing, probably the best DLC. Stolen Memory (Kasumi) and Price of Revenge (Zaeed) add two solid squadmates, but also don't directly impact the main plot.Įverything else is just weapons or cosmetics.Įxtended Cut absolutely improves the ending but doesn't necessarily make it good. Overlord plays great and is fun, but story-wise is pure side content that can be missed. Pinnacle Station isn't even on all platforms, is never mentioned again, and is basically a combat simulator.Īrrival also impacts the story of the game, but can be skipped if absolutely needed. I liked Bring Down the Sky, but you'll basically just be missing some minor side stuff in ME3. While I advise getting it all barring the weapon and cosmetic packs, here's some recommendations based on the main story of the series: Buy Citadel after you complete the trilogy if you want more. If you're on a budget: Buy Shadow Broker, Leviathan, and From Ashes. It's functionally a tongue-in-cheek epilogue and goodbye to the characters and the best farewell I've played. If you beat ME3 and loved the trilogy and can't believe it's over and need more time with it, absolutely buy Citadel ($15). Omega you can skip and I'd only recommend it if you really love Aria or the combat (best combat arenas in the game). From Ashes ($10) is also pretty damn important but it isn't 100% needed to understand ME3's main plot like Leviathan and the Extended Cut are. ME3: Leviathan ($10) and the free Extended Cut are absolute essentials. Kasumi and Zaeed are enjoyable squad members with pretty good missions, so I'd get them if you want the complete experience but they aren't essential. Playing it slightly affects a major side quest in ME3. Overlord ($7) is a great DLC, but has no real bearing on the main plot or any of the important characters. But more importantly, it's super goddamn fun. It's huge character development for Liara that happens anyway offscreen once ME3 comes around, so you'll have missed out on the events otherwise. Playing Bring Down The Sky slightly changes a minor side quest in ME3. ![]() I'd say play Leviathan near the end of the game, the later the better, and Citadel should be the last thing you play before the final mission. With ME3, play From Ashes as soon as you can. Arrival should be the last thing you play in ME2. ![]() I'd say you can take or leave Omega, but that's up to you.Īs for playing order, slot in ME2's squad mates in the middle of your playthrough (the sooner the better), with Overlord and Shadow Broker in the middle there too, or after you beat the game, either way works. From Ashes (new squad mate), Leviathan, and Citadel are all pretty great. ![]() Mass Effect 3's DLC is mostly essential, with one exception that I think will come down to personal preference. You can also check out the Normandy Crash Site DLC if you want I believe it's free. Mass Effect 2 has a ton of DLC that I'd consider "essential": Zaeed - The Price of Revenge (new squad mate), Kasumi - Stolen Memory (new squad mate), Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, and Arrival. Bring Down the Sky is kind of neat, but I think it's mostly forgettable.
